Measure which magnet is strongest
Label two magnets ‘A’ and ‘B’. Put a pile of paper clips on a table and spread them out a little. A student takes a turn to pick up as many clips as they can and drop it in the counting bucket. Pairs count from the bucket and write down the total number of paper clips that can be held by ‘A’ on the T chart. Do the same for ‘B’. Which one is the stronger magnet? Students draw a T-chart or fold the paper to make two columns. Pairs of students write down how many clips the magnets can hold. Students can use stem sentences or cloze sentences to write about comparing the magnets.
